The Bar Examiner Terms of Service
Effective Date: May 17th 2026
Welcome to The Bar Examiner. By creating an account, using this site, submitting content, posting reviews, claiming a listing, suggesting edits, or otherwise interacting with The Bar Examiner, you agree to these Terms of Service.
If you do not agree, do not use the site.
1. Age Requirement
The Bar Examiner is intended for users who are 21 years of age or older. By registering or using interactive features of the site, you confirm that you are at least 21 years old.
2. Your Account and Public Handle
When you create an account, you may be required to choose a public handle. Your public handle may appear with reviews, submissions, claims, corrections, comments, or other site activity.
To protect review trust, identity consistency, and site integrity, public handles may be locked after registration. Handle changes may be limited, denied, or handled by request only.
You are responsible for keeping your login information secure. Do not share your account, impersonate another person, or create accounts for deceptive purposes.
3. User Content
You may be able to submit reviews, ratings, listing updates, photos, claims, reports, suggestions, or other content.
By submitting content, you confirm that:
- You have the right to submit it.
- It is accurate to the best of your knowledge.
- It is based on your honest experience or good-faith information.
- It does not violate another person’s rights.
- It does not contain unlawful, abusive, threatening, or harmful material.
You remain responsible for what you submit.
The Bar Examiner may review, edit, reject, hide, remove, or moderate user content at our discretion.
4. Don’t Be a Hostile Witness…
The Bar Examiner is meant to be useful, honest, and fun. It is not a place for harassment, threats, sabotage, or bad-faith nonsense.
You agree not to submit, post, encourage, or participate in:
- Threats, intimidation, harassment, or cyberbullying.
- Doxing or sharing private personal information.
- Racist, hateful, bigoted, or discriminatory content.
- Political hostility or political harassment unrelated to a legitimate bar/listing experience.
- Personal attacks against employees, owners, patrons, reviewers, or other users.
- False, misleading, malicious, or knowingly inaccurate reviews.
- Review bombing, review stacking, or coordinated fake review activity.
- Multiple fake accounts used to manipulate ratings, reviews, claims, reports, or votes.
- Sabotage of a business, listing, user account, or site feature.
- Spam, scams, malware, phishing, scraping, or automated abuse.
- Attempts to bypass moderation, security, account restrictions, or site rules.
If you try to game the system, poison the well, or turn the site into a digital bar fight, your account or content may be restricted, suspended, revoked, or removed.
5. Reviews and Ratings
Reviews should be honest, fair, and useful.
You may criticize a business, experience, service, food, drinks, atmosphere, pricing, or other relevant details, but your review should reflect a real experience or good-faith information.
Do not post fake reviews, paid reviews without disclosure, competitor sabotage, personal vendettas, or repeated reviews designed to unfairly inflate or damage a listing.
The Bar Examiner may remove or limit reviews that appear fraudulent, abusive, irrelevant, manipulated, or otherwise inconsistent with these Terms.
6. Business Owners, Managers, and Claimed Listings
Business owners, managers, or authorized representatives may be allowed to claim or manage listings.
By submitting a claim or managing a listing, you confirm that you are authorized to act on behalf of that business.
Owner or manager tools may be subject to additional terms, policies, verification steps, or approval. The Bar Examiner may approve, deny, suspend, or revoke owner access at our discretion.
Claiming a listing does not give you the right to remove honest criticism, manipulate reviews, retaliate against users, or misrepresent business information.
7. Accuracy of Information
The Bar Examiner may include business listings, hours, specials, events, features, amenities, ratings, reviews, and other information.
We try to keep information useful and accurate, but we cannot guarantee that everything on the site is complete, current, or error-free.
Bars and businesses change hours, menus, prices, specials, policies, ownership, events, and services. Always confirm important details directly with the business before relying on them.
8. No Professional Advice
The Bar Examiner provides general information, opinions, reviews, and directory-style content. Nothing on the site is legal, financial, safety, health, or professional advice.
Use your own judgment. We examine. You judge.
9. Email, Account Notices, and Anti-Spam Policy
The Bar Examiner respects your inbox. We do not want to spam you, annoy you, or send surprise promotional junk you did not ask for.
Marketing emails, newsletters, specials, digests, promotional messages, and optional update emails will only be sent if you choose to receive them, subscribe to them, follow a listing, request updates, or otherwise opt in.
However, by creating an account or using The Bar Examiner, you agree that we may send you necessary account-related, legal, security, transactional, or administrative emails even if you have opted out of marketing or optional notifications.
These may include, but are not limited to:
- Email verification messages.
- Password reset or account access messages.
- Account status notices.
- Claim, report, review, or submission-related notices.
- Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, or policy update notices.
- Important site, safety, security, or service-change notices.
- Notices required to operate or protect the site, users, listings, or community.
You may opt out of marketing and optional notifications, but you cannot opt out of essential account, legal, security, or administrative messages while maintaining an active account.
In plain English: we will not spam you, but if something important affects your account, the rules, or the site itself, we may still need to tell you.
10. Security and Sensitive Information
We take reasonable steps to protect the site and user accounts, but The Bar Examiner is not a bank, government agency, medical system, or high-security vault.
Do not submit or store highly sensitive information on this site, including Social Security numbers, financial account numbers, crypto keys, passwords for other services, private identification documents, or other sensitive personal data.
If you choose to share information through the site, you do so at your own risk.

We do not guarantee that the site will always be available, error-free, uninterrupted, secure, or compatible with every device, browser, plugin, or third-party service.
12. Moderation and Enforcement
We may enforce these Terms in several ways, including but not limited to:
- Removing or editing content.
- Limiting account features.
- Requiring additional verification.
- Suspending or revoking accounts.
- Blocking users, devices, IP addresses, or activity patterns.
- Removing fake, abusive, spammy, or manipulated submissions.
- Refusing or revoking listing claims.
We are not required to host or preserve any user content.

15. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent allowed by law, The Bar Examiner and its owners, operators, employees, contractors, partners, and affiliates are not liable for damages arising from your use of the site, reliance on site content, user-submitted content, unavailable features, inaccurate information, account issues, security incidents, third-party services, or business interactions.
Use the site at your own risk.

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless The Bar Examiner from claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, or expenses arising from your use of the site, your submitted content, your violation of these Terms, your misuse of account features, or your violation of another person’s rights.
17. Updates to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we may update the effective date above.
Continued use of the site after changes means you accept the updated Terms.

19. Final Word from the Bailiff
The Bar Examiner is here to help people find, examine, and judge bar experiences fairly.
Be honest. Be useful. Be cool.
If you threaten people, dox users, harass businesses, fake reviews, manipulate ratings, sabotage listings, spam the site, or generally act like a menace, you may be removed from the premises.
In other words: break the rules, and you may get bounced by the bailiff.
